Proof of vaccination indicating the date of vaccination and next due date is acceptable. A titre count indicating adequate protection is acceptable however this must be submitted on an annual basis. PALS does not require any other core or non-core vaccinations for cats. Due to the possibility of territorial issues, PALS cats are never placed on the same team so their contact with other cats is restricted. Ferretssame as for cats. HorsesHorses are required to have protection against West Nile virus and rabies. Other speciesRabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters do not require any vaccinations. Pet HealthPALS pets are subjected to very warm environments, slippery floors, stairs and, occasionally, some rough handling or getting bumped into by wheelchairs or other equipment. Pets are also handled by many different people during a visit that may be 1-½ hours in length. In addition most of our pets work in hospitals and long term care facilities where there are higher concentrations of staphylococcus bacteria. For these reasons we ask that you help us, by completing the Pet Health Assessment, to screen out pets that may be physically compromised under visiting conditions or are immune suppressed. This includes pets that are obese, have chronic skin lesions or on medication that compromises their immune system. Pets with incontinence, especially fecal, are not appropriate for the program. Some pets with mild or controlled medical conditions may still be able to visit safely and, as the pet’s veterinarian, your input in these instances is invaluable. Pet Health Assessment FormA completed Pet Health Assessment Form is an integral part of our screening process and we appreciate your contribution that helps ensure pets can visit safely and comfortably.
